Actos Bladder Cancer Lawsuit Filed in California

A recent Actos lawsuit filed in California has become the latest in a long line of actions filed by survivors whose loved ones have allegedly fallen victim to Actos bladder cancer. In this case, plaintiff Barbara Darrell filed her Actos side effects lawsuit as the daughter of an patient who she claims was unaware of the risks associated with the type II diabetes medication. According to the lawsuit, the plaintiff’s mother used Actos for over three years without being aware of the link between Actos and bladder cancer, which eventually took her life.

This Actos side effects lawsuit was filed by the plaintiff’s Actos lawyer on March 23, 2012, in the Superior Court of Los Angeles County, where 12 other Actos lawsuits have been consolidated. These lawsuits were assigned to the Honorable Judge Carl J. West on January 4, 2012.

Long-term use linked to Actos cancer

Plaintiff Darrell chose to file an Actos lawsuit after her mother, Ursula Tucker, began taking the medication to treat type II diabetes in 2007. She was allegedly unaware of the risk of serious Actos side effects that could be linked to the medication. Her daughter says that she would never have used Actos had she known about the risks associated with its long-term use.

Tucker was diagnosed in 2010 with Actos cancer, which led to her death. Darrell’s Actos lawyer claims that drug maker Takeda knew of the risk of Actos side effects when the medication was taken for more than 12 months, but withheld this information from patients and the medical community for some time.

The FDA issued a safety warning on June 15, 2011 regarding the risk of Actos use for more than one year, as it has been linked to bladder cancer. For many patients, this Actos cancer warning came too late.

Darrell is demanding a jury trial to determine damages and compensation for expenses associated with the death of her mother.

Actos lawsuit actions consolidated

Multidistrict litigation has consolidated a number of Actos lawsuits, filed on behalf of plaintiffs by an Actos lawyer, in the United States District Court for the Western District of Louisiana. These cases will be overseen by Judge Rebecca Doherty.
