Chantix Plaintiff Blames Crimes on Side Effects

Chantix plaintiff Eric Hall filed a lawsuit against drug maker Pfizer on July 2, 2012, holding the drugmkaer responsible for injuries he suffered when he experienced serious psychological side effects as a result of his use of the drug. The case will be consolidated in the current Chantix multidistrict litigation case taking place in the United States’ District Court for the Northern District of Alabama. Hall claims that after he began taking the smoking cessation drug in 2007, he experienced side effects that resulted in serious damages, and is hoping to hold drug maker Pfizer responsible for the side effects he experienced after taking the medication.

Disorientation included in side effects

Hall’s complaint states that he began taking the medication as prescribed in July of 2007. After taking the drug for an unspecified amount of time, h allegedly robbed a toll collector and was involved in a police chase that ultimately resulted in the wrecking of his car and his incarceration. The plaintiff claims that he has no memory of these events. As of the 14th of July, 2012, the Food and Drug Administration has received nearly 400 reports of people experiencing Chantix-related disorientation as one of a number of side effects resulting from Chantix use.

Hall claims that he never would have committed these crimes had he not begun using the smoking cessation medication. In May of 2008, the Federal Aviation Administration ordered pilots and air traffic controllers ordered pilots and air traffic controllers to discontinue any use of Chantix and removed the drug from a list of medication considered safe to use by people in these professions. Chantix was linked at the time to seizures, loss of consciousness, and various psychiatric instabilities. Side effects can also include blackouts, during which patients are unaware of what they are doing.

Negligence and other counts in lawsuit

Plaintiff Hall joins a number of plaintiffs who are seeking compensation for Chantix injuries they have experienced, and is bringing counts of negligence, breach of warranties, fraudulent and negligent misrepresentation, design defect, gross negligence, and unjust enrichment against drug maker Pfizer.
