Yaz Wrongful Death Lawsuit Demands Damages
A wrongful death lawsuit has been filed in the multidistrict litigation case taking place in Illinois over the death of a wife and mother who died allegedly as the result of a stroke related to her use of Yaz. The plaintiff in the case is the woman’s husband, who claims that her use of the popular fourth-generation birth control was a contributing factor to her death. This suit was filed on June 29, 2012, in the United States’ District Court for the Southern District of Illinois. This venue is also the location of a number of other lawsuits filed by patients of the controversial birth control who have experienced serious side effects associated with the medication. All of these plaintiffs are hoping to win compensation that could help cover medical bills and other costs associated with their injuries.
Yaz stroke: most dangerous side effect
Stroke resulting from Yaz use is one of the most dangerous side effects associated with the use of the medication. Yaz has been linked to a number of blood clot related conditions, including deep vein thrombosis and pulmonary embolism; a stroke happens when a blood clot enters the brain. This can lead to long-term medical issues as well as death. Unfortunately, the lawsuit in question deals with a death related to stroke, which is the most severe complication that can take place as a side effect of the drug.
Chad Zipperer claims that his wife, the decedent Brandy Zipperer, was not aware of the risks associated with the use of Yaz when she began taking it, and claim that drug maker Bayer did not adequately warn patients about potential side effects of the medication and instead promoted the medication as a safe form of birth control.
Lawsuits continue to be filed
Patients continue to file Yaz lawsuits in the multidistrict litigation case, which has consolidated thousands of cases filed against drug maker Bayer and other plaintiffs. Bayer has chosen to settle out of court with many of the plaintiffs involved in litigation, and average settlements amount to about $218,000 per plaintiff.
